One Laptop per Child XO Laptop (Give a Laptop, Get a Laptop)

UPDATE: The Give One Get One program ended on 12/31/2008, however you can still donate a laptop to a child in a developing country through this link.

Most of the nearly two billion children in the world do not have access to adequate education. The XO laptop was created to address this problem. The mission of One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is to empower the children of developing countries to learn by providing one connected laptop to every school-age child. In order to accomplish this goal, we need people who want to help make education for the world’s children a priority, not a privilege. This laptop has built in wireless and a special screen that can easily be read in direct sunlight for children who attend school outside. It is durable, energy efficient, educational and fun.
There are two ways to give to this project. You can donate $199 and an XO laptop will be sent to a child in a developing country. Donate an XO Laptop through Amazon Alternatively, if you would like to purchase one of these learning laptops for your child, for $399 you will receive one XO laptop AND one XO will be donated to a child in need.

Your Baby Can Read

I recently purchased the DVD and book series “Your Baby Can Read”, by Dr. Robert Titzer. This is truly amazing. This series actually teaches babies to read. At first, by memorizing the pattern of the words, and eventually learning to recognize the patterns of language to be able to read books that they have never seen before. I’ve only been using this for a couple weeks so far, but my 1 year old and 2 year old both love it. Reading the book with them is holding their attention and of course they love the video. You can purchase the DVD set through Amazon.com here Your Baby Can Read (5 DVD Set and more)
or go to http://www.yourbabycanread.com/ to read more about this system. I’d also reccommend Dr. Robert Titzer’s blog at http://www.teachyourbaby.com/
